Bapatla Municipality is 2nd Grade Municipality in the Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh. It is spread over an area 17.92 Sq.Km., with a population of 70,777 (2011 census).
It is located 80Kms from Capital city and 55 Kms from District Headquarter. It was established as 3rd Grade Municipality in the year 1951 and it was handed and upgraded to 2nd Grade Municipality in the year 1969. There are 3 zones and 34 Election wards in this municipality.
Bapatla town is located at 150’54’N 800’29’E 150’55’N800’30’E. Bapatla Town is situated between Guntur – Chirala Road. The road is under consideration to declare it as Highway from “Penumudi’’ bridge which was Constructed recently on the river Krishna near Repalle all along to prakasam District.
Climate and rainfall:
Bapatla town, is general, has a tropical climate, winters last from November to February, while summer last from March to June. The annual rainfall is 283 mm, most of it received during the months of October, November and December.
The population of the town which was 68397 in 2001 increased to 70777 in 2011 with an increase of 3.32% in the last decade. The sex ratio is 895 females per 1000 males. The literacy rate is 76 % 69% of the male population and 73 % of the female population are literate.
It is too hot in summer. Bapatla summer highest day temperature is in between 22oC to 35 oC average temperature of January is 22 oC, February is 20oC, March is 21 oC, April is 23oC, May is 35 oC
The state Government had initial many social security schemes for the benefit of Urban Poor. The success of DWCRA self help groups is emulated in the urban area also by forming DWCUA self Common Building Services help groups and the Government is facilitating various credit plans through SLBC/DLBC to these urban self groups for various income generating activities. This programe is done under Indira Kranthi Padham. The population in the slums are 27,278.
History & culture:
Bapatla has Three very famous temples with in the town one is Kshera Baavannaraya Swamy Temple, Second is Someswara Temple and Third Prapatanjayaneya swamy temple according to the Sthalapurnam (Local History) the Kehera Bhavannarayana Swamy Temple and biggest Gali Gopuram had Constructed at Cholaraju time in 5th Century. Every year Vysaka Pournami Braomohasthavams were conducted, the local and surrounding village people are participated in the Radhostavam.
Is In education aspect the town is very prominent. Prior to the Independence day i.e. in the year 1945,One famous Agricultural University was established in the Town, Beside this, One Engineering College, AG Engineering College, Home Science College, B. Pharmacy College’s Are also established in the town. In addition to this there is an AIRFORCE Station at Suryalanka which is only 7 K.M distance to Bapatla Town. The town is noted as a good educational centre as such number of Students from all the corners of India used to join in the College’s as there is a good road and rail – road facilities to the town.
Bapatla Municipality financial position is good and is maintained surplus budget. Due to implementation of Financial reforms from last 30 years and following of rules and regulations strictly in financial matters there is an amount Rs.9.00 crores balance funds are available with this Municipality.
